WFMW: Kitchen Tips - Clean Up

Imagine going from one cooking project to another; maybe you are cooking dinner or better yet, for a dinner party. You’ve cooked a main dish, sides, dessert, maybe even baked some bread. You finally finish and look at your kitchen.

Ugh.

I do it all the time. In fact, I am utterly incapable of cooking at all without messing up what seems to be every dish available.

But never fear - MY MAN is here.

I am incredibly fortunate to have a husband that cleans up for me after I cook. It’s kind of been our deal even since we were dating in college. I cook, he cleans up.

Yes, I’ll throw the occasional dish into the dishwasher. And maybe sometimes I’ll put one or two away. {gasp} But most of the time, it’s him doing the straightening up of the kitchen after dinner.

It’s even to the point now where he’s picky about how the dishwasher is loaded. If I’m going to put dishes into it, I’d better have enough to fill it and run it, because if he comes behind me to finish up, he’ll be almost emptying the whole thing just to move stuff around to how he likes it.

It’s really kind of cute.

So that’s what REALLY works for me… I cook – he cleans.

What a man! And ladies, he's all mine!

My husband and I have the same division of labor. Works great!

What a deal! I do all the kitchen stuff, but he helps with homework. :)

But I unload the dishwasher before I start cooking and toss my dirty stuff in as I cook. Most days by the time we sit down to eat, the only things left to clean are the plates etc themselves and a pot or two.

Works for me. : )

That's why I hate cooking - the cleanup. Now I know your secret, Donna.

We have the same deal in my house! And the dishwasher? TOO FUNNY! Hubs is the exact same way! Oh, and do you find that your husband almost gets offended if you do dishes? Mine does. He thinks that I'm disapproving of his skill at this adopted job and gets really bent. All I'm trying to do is to help. But, I think that when he comes home to a sink full of dishes, he looks at that as a sign of love. :)

Hive five, I've got his brother (well probably not his actual brother) but my man rocks too!

I can relate! The Beloved is Very Good at bringing order to chaos--he thrives on it, actually. So, when Hurricane Jenni is finished in the kitchen, he rolls in and cleans up the debris!

It was quite the wake up call when I was cooking professionally and sometimes had 2 or 3 dozen different things to cook and....No Beloved! I had to clean as I went! Ack! It took some getting used to.

That is a mighty fine man my friend!! I despise the cleanup after, which makes me not want to do the cooking in he first place!

Sadly, I don't have your deal. I either need a better routine or have to learn to use less dishes when cooking!

Uh, Yeah. If MY man cleaned up the kitchen after me, I'd cook like you do too!

Personally, I think you load the dishwasher wrong on purpose!
