Words schmords

During my daughter’s Christmas concert at school the other day, one of the songs that they sang was “Sing We Now of Christmas.” You know it right? Here’s how it goes:

Sing we now of Christmas, Noel, sing we here!
Hear our grateful praises to the babe so dear.

Sing we Noel, the King is born, Noel!
Sing we now of Christmas, sing we now Noel!

So Sarah has been practicing this song, among others, off and on for a little while and was singing it in the car on Monday evening. She sang it a couple of times, then I also played a recorded version that I have on my iPod.

Later, when we got home, Nathan said something and I asked him to repeat what he had said.

“Oh my gosh, oh dear,” he said.

And then he started singing it.

Sing we now of Christmas.
Noah sing we here.
Bringing gifts for Jesus.
Oh my gosh, oh dear.

I never could get a recording of it and I just couldn’t bear to correct him because, dangit if it wasn’t just the cutest thing EVER!

Have you ever or have your kids ever butchered song lyrics? Oh please, do share…

Heh... my youngest son - at the time, 4 - got creative with the lyrics to Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

In the little bridge part he would sing,

"You give and take away,
You give and take away.
The Lord has bills to pay
That's why He takes away."

That's PRECIOUS! And I love Beyond This Moment's song, too! :o)

When I was little, my great-grandmother used to come every Christmas. She always told about when my great-aunt was little and would sing Silent Night:

Silent Night Ho-o-ly Night.
Awe is come. Awe is bright.
Round jump Virgie and her mother and her child
Holy in fat so tenor and miles
Sleep in heavenly pee-pee
Sleep in heavenly pee.

If that doesn't say Merry Christmas, I don't know what does. :o)

Hugs,
Melinda

We had a little boy in our church that sang "let the glory of the Lord, rise an onion" He sang it loud and proud so anyone within a 5 foot radius of him diring praise time was in stitches!

LB is only 2.5 years old but she has started singing too. Sometimes I can't figure out what she's singing. Lately it's been some version of Away in a Manger. "Don't cry, Jesus. no wake, Jesus." She so darn cute!!!

Well, I teach K's so I could go on and on but the most recent was the other day when we were singing the National Anthem. One of my kids was singing "And the rockets black hair!!" Deb G
