In case you're wondering what this post is all about, I'm participating in a scripture memory challenge this year with the LPM Blog Siestas.
My scripture passage for this two week period is Psalm 100. I chose this passage because my daughter is also memorizing it for a speech meet in a few days, so we are memorizing it together.
Psalm 100:1-5
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
Come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord, He is God.
It is he who made us and we are his;
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.
I also wanted to share with you something else that I'm doing with this that I hope will continue for years to come.
I have purchased a Bible specifically for scripture memory. Here is a description of the Bible I bought from the outside box...
Yes, it actually is squared. The neat thing about this type of Bible is actually the lack of commentary and the wide margins for personal notes.
I decided that I would underline and date each passage that I am committing to memory. Then in the margin I plan to write a prayer or thought about the passage.
My prayer for this project is that not only will I be able to look back over the years at the passages that I have memorized, but that it will be a treasure to pass on to my children and future generations. I know how precious each of my grandparents' Bibles have been to my parents and I can't think of a better legacy to leave my children than a record of those scriptures that the Lord led me to memorize.
So I encourage you to think about doing something similar. And if that isn't enough to convince you, just look at how cute and SASSY this Bible is.
Here's to RENEWing my mind with a little sass and legacy on the side.
Because I just love me some sass.

Donna,
What a great ideal, I think that I will be leaving work today and going straight to Family Christian to see if they have one. What a wonderful way to track your progress.

Donna,
I love that you and your daughter are memorizing together! Great Bible!

What a great idea! And what a sassy Bible!
that is an adorable Bible!
I had a wide-margin Bible when I was first saved and I LOVED it. Then I had to get a different version for college, and then another, and...anyway, I went looking for another wide-margin Bible last year and they're almost impossible to find! So can you share the specifics on yours? Thanks!
here's a link.

Donna,
What a COOL idea!
I hope it is absolutely marked up and worn out by the time it gets passed on.

This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing. I have a cutsie Bible too, and I've considered getting a new one more appropriate for a grown lady, but I don't want to part with all my notes and references, so I continue to use my pink Bible with a green and orange flower on the front! :)
I'm currently memorizing Psalm 139. (I'm almost done and so proud of myself! I never would have thought I could accomplish such a feat!) I plan to memorize Psalm 100, as well. I just love it!
Thanks for stopping by The Trysting Place,
Rachel
I love this idea Donna! I am going to find one too. I bought a "sassy" Bible a few years back to keep in our camping trailer, but the pages are so incredibly think, I don't think they would hold up. So I will be shopping around for a square one like yours or one with space in the margins like it anyway. Thanks for a wonderful idea.
And, um, well stating the obvious here, but well, you know your camera date stamp is set wrong right?
I just saw this on sale at christianbook.com for $14.99 in case anyone else wants one or you want any as gifts:)
They also have a looseleaf Bible which would work great for memorization purposes as well as notes and records.
